Mary Anne Marek, age 38 of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away December 1, 1997 in a Las Vegas hospital. Memorial services were December 4 at Mountain View Seventh Day Adventist Church in Las Vegas. Mary Anne was born September 20, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio to Raymond J. and Mary L. Gerik Marek. At the age of sic months, Mary Anne and her parents moved to San Antonio. She attended St. Luke's Elementary Catholic School and Providence School in San Antonio. She attended San Antonio College where she obtained a degree in Child Development. Mary Anne started in the pastry business by giving cake and pastry decorating tips while in high school. She was employed by Baskin-Robins in San Antonio and worked for Nadlers Catering Service in San Antonio and then for Woodland Country Club. Mary Anne was employed by the Adam-Marks Hotel in Houston. She was a Pastry Chef for the Peabody Hotel (the one with the ducks) for two years. She also worked for Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Mary Anne received her Master Pastry Chef degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie, New York. At the time of her death, Mary Anne was employed as a Master Pastry Chef for the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, a position she had for the past four years. Survivors include her parents, Raymond and Mary Gerik Marek of West; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Delta Lynn Marek, Jr. of Fort Worth; a step-niece, Somer Thomas; and other relatives and friends.
