Mrs. Bruce (Frances) Malaer, age 74 of Abbott, passed away Monday morning, August 7, 2000 at her residence. Rosary was recited at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott; with Rev. Jerry Ryan, O.S.A., as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, West. Mrs. Malaer was born November 8, 1925 in the West area and raised in Abbott. She graduated from Abbott High School, Providence School of Nursing and received a B.S.R.N. from Sacred Heart Dominican College in Houston. Mrs. Malaer worked as a RN in the VA hospital in Houston and Marlin, retiring at Marlin after 30 years. She married Bruce Malaer, March 21, 1948 at Abbott. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of St. Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, the K.J.Z.T. Society #104 of Abbott, Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 of West and the Czech Heritage Society of Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Vince Marek, who died June 29, 1925. Her mother remarried September 5, 1927 and she and John F. Zapalac, raised her. Survivors include her husband, Bruce Malaer of Abbott, one son, John Malaer and wife Angela of Houston; one daughter, Linda Bole and her husband Mike of Houston; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristin and Justin Malaer and Matt and Julie Bole. Active Pallbearers: Raymond Marek, Charlie Pavlas, Terry Kramolis, Gilbert Thomas, Keith Thomas and Billy Crook and Ronnie Pustejovsky. Honorary Pallbearers were Members of Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 of West. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
