Charles Kolenovsky of West Is First 1942 Traffic Victim Icy Road Responsible For Fatal Accident Charles Kolenovsky, 24, of West, became McLennan County's first traffic victim of the year when he was hurled from a skidding car on a lateral road a mile and a half east of this city at 6:30 a.m. Saturday and died shortly afterward. Kolenovsky was riding in a roadster driven by Jerry Reznicek when the car went out of control and started slipping on the icy road. Young Kolenovsky apparently was trying to get out of the car when he was thrown to the frozen road as the automobile swerved. The car turned over, then righted itself. The driver was not injured. Reznicek helped Kolenovsky to his feet and the two walked some 200 yards to a farmhouse, where Dr. Thos. J. Scanio was summoned. By the time the doctor arrived, Kolenovsky had died of internal injuries. Funeral services were held at 9:30 Monday morning at the Catholic church, Rev. E.J. Polcak officiating, burial in the Catholic cemetery. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Annie Kolenovsky of West; two brothers, Frank of Whitney and Jerry of Fort Sam Houston; four sisters, Miss Annie Kolenovsky of Galveston, Miss Georgia Kolenovsky of Dallas, Misses Rosie and Helen Kolenovsky of West; his grandmother, Mrs. Jenovefice Kolenovsky of West. Deceased was an employee of E.J. Jerabek, and leaves a host of friends here to mourn his passing. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 52, No. 33, Edition 1, Friday, January 9, 1942, page 1.
