Bio

Alphonse J. Kolar, age 69 of San Antonio, formerly of Penelope, passed away late Friday evening, November 17, 2000 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Funeral Services were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Isidore Rozycki officiating. Military Graveside Rites followed at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, provided by V.F.W. Post No. 4819. Mr. Kolar was born December 14, 1930 in Abbott, the son of Robert and Elsie Kolar. He attended schools in Abbott and Penelope. He enlisted into the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict and four tours of duty in Vietnam. He then enlisted into the Navy Sea Bees, where he served for over 18 years as a medic. He worked as an equipment operator for the Department of Defense at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio until his retirement in 1990. Alphonse loved gardening, canning and the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve Association. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Evelyn Seith, who passed away May 23, 1994. He is survived by one brother, Marvin Kolar of San Antonio; two sisters, Irene Bailey and Helen Klanika, both of Mt. Calm and a host of his beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Norman Klanika, Gary Klanika, Marvin Bailey, Justin Bailey, John Kolar and Joshua Sikes. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
