John V. Kallus, age 64, of 1110 North Davis in West, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 4, 1990 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption by Rev. Ed Karasek. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as Celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Kallus was born February 13, 1926 near Abbott, the son of Frank and Rosie Kallus. He married Irene Grones on October 21, 1928 in West. He was a farmer. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819 in West, and a member of the Abbott K.J.T. Society No. 107. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mr. Kallus served his country with the United States Army during World War II, and participated in the Pacific Theatre. Survivors include his wife, Irene Kallus of West; two sons, Larry Kallus of Leroy and Kenneth Kallus of Burleson; three daughters, Shirley Kubala of Route 1, West, Carolyn Kallus of Austin, and Tammy Kallus of West; two brothers, Raymond Kallus of West and Albin Kallus of Abbott; one sister, Mrs. Tracie Smajstrla of West; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Jerome Kallus, Paul Grones, Edwin Grones, Jimmie Bruce, Joe Holy, and Leo Klimitchek. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the V.F.W. Post No. 4819 in West.
