Bio

Raymond Frank Kallus, 86, of West, Texas, passed away Friday afternoon, December 12, 2008 at the Olin E. Teague Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a visitation till 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by V.F.W. Post 4819 of West. Raymond was born in Abbott, Texas, to the late Frank and Rose (Bezdek) Kallus. He attended the old Brooken School near Abbott. He served his country during World War II with the United States Army Transportation Corp and the United States Coast Guard-Merchant Marines. Raymond also served on the USNS Bondia during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1966. On May 27, 1972, he was united in marriage to Lois Marek Sykora in West. Raymond was an independent commercial truck driver. He enjoyed gardening, doing yard work, and especially spending time with his grandsons. Raymond was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood and K.J.T. Society No. 31 in West. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819 in West and the American Legion Post #121 in Waco. Also preceding him in death are his brothers, Albin Kallus and Johnny Kallus. Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Lois Marek Kallus, of West; daughters, Dody Volcik and husband, Larry, of Salado and Rose Volcik and husband, Harry, of Lacy Lakeview; sister, Tracie Smajstrla and husband, Ed, of Houston; sister-in-law, Josephine Kallus, of Abbott; grandsons, Ryan Volcik and wife, Kristin, Travis Volcik and wife, Lindsey and Alan Volcik and wife, Kelli, all of Waco; great-grandson, Austin Bolfing; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
