Ernest J. "Ernie" Litty, 55,of 19435 Marigold Drive died Monday in a Sterling hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday from the Chaney-Walters Funeral Home. Military graveside rites by the Sterling American Legion Post No. 20 and burial will follow at Riverside cemetery. Mr. Litty was born May 13, 1922, in Sterling the son of Edward F. and Bessie A. Cihacek Litty. He received his schooling in Sterling and graduated from Sterling High School. He entered the U. S. Army in November 1942 and served as an aircraft mechanic and later as a liaison pilot in the European Theater of Operations. During his military service, Mr. Litty attended college at Texas A & M College, College Station, Tex., and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, La., specializing in mechanical engineering. He was discharged from active military service in 1946 and was employed as an air craft mechanic at Rutledge Field in Denver and received his private pilots license in April 1946. In 1948, Mr. Litty purchased the Accurate Refrigeration Service in Denver and three years later moved the firm to Sterling and served the community since 1951. Mr. Litty was active in American Legion activities on the local, district and state levels and was District 3 Junior Vice Commander. The district includes Legion posts in nor theastern Colorado. He was a past commander of the Sterling post and chairman of the Legion Club board of directors for six years. He was active in the formation of Miss Colorado Legion competition and Boys State activities. He was also active in Civil Air Patrol operations and served as commander of the High Plains CAP. Mr. Litty was also a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Logan County Builders Association, Sterling County Club and Sterling Elks. Several years ago he taught special courses in refrigeration at Northeastern Junior College and aviation courses at Sterling High School. He married Anita Buuscher Timmermeyer April 14, 1974 in Fleming. Mr. Litty is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anita Litty of Sterling; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Litty of Sterling; a brother, F. Edward Litty of Denver and a sister, Mrs. Betty Hulse of Fleming. Chaney-Walters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
