Susan was the daughter of Isaiah and Sarah Wiley. 1850 US Census for Hancock, Illinois: Isaiah Wiley, b. abt. 1800, NC. Sarah Wiley, b. abt. 1796, NC. Susan J. Wiley, b. abt. 1828, NC. William M. Wiley, b. abt. 1833, IN. Thomas J. Wiley, b. abt. 1836, IN. Sometime between 1850 and 1854, Susan married William Bedford, b. abt. 1825, OH, d. 1854, IL. They had one son: Charles Bedford, b. 1854, IL. Between 1854 and 1857, Calvin Twombly married Susan Jane Wiley Bedford (widow of Charles Bedford). Calvin and Susan had the following children: William Manville Twombly, b. abt. 1857, IL. Hannah Twombly, b. abt. 1859, IL. Samuel Twombly, b. abt. 1861, IL. Mary E. Twombly, b. abt. 1863, IL. Daniel Twombly, b. abt. 1866., IL. Thomas Edward Twombly, b. abt. 1867, IL. Calvin Twombly died in August 1869. In 1880 Susan Twombly brought her children from Illinois to Saunders County, Nebraska, purchased a farm there, where the family remained until 1884. Susan Twombly then came to Custer County and took up a homestead on section fourteen, and section fifteen, township eighteen, range eighteen, on which she proved her title. With her she brought her three sons, William, Samuel and Thomas E., and one daughter, Mary. In the fall of 1890 she went to live with C. W. Bedford, an only son by a former marriage, where she died in 1906. He had come with the family to Saunders County, but came to Custer County to live one year prior to the others. C. W.
