Bio

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel for Ella Marie Clark, 98, Topeka. She died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at a Holton nursing home. Mrs. Clark had taught school many years ago. She was born Dec. 3, 1901, in Iona, S.D., the daughter of George Ernest and Marie Coverdale Hammond. She graduated from Fort Morgan, Colo., High School in 1920, and she attended Northern Colorado State University at Greeley, Colo. She moved to Topeka from Elsmore in 1975. Mrs. Clark was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church and a life member of United Methodist Women. She was active in a quilting circle at Elsmore Methodist Church in Elsmore, and was renowned locally as a quilt maker. She made her last quilt in 1986, and she was featured as a Capital-Journal Cook of the Week in 1986. Mrs. Clark also was a member of the Capital City China Painting Club in Topeka, and she was a delegate to the 1936 Democratic Convention. Survivors include three sons, William K. Clark, Manhattan, Dr. Donald E. Clark, Holton, and Dr. Frederic E. Clark, Topeka; two daughters, Betty L. Price, Topeka, and Roberta M. Holt, Valley Falls; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Crestview United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund, or to the charity of the donor's choice and sent in care of the funeral home.
