Bio

Wilton Charles Frase passed away peacefully, Saturday evening, Oct. 3, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Temple. Wilton was born on Sept. 28, 1924 in Copperas Cove to Margaret and Victor Frase Sr. Wilton served his country during World War II in the 224th Field Artillery Battalion at Normandy and received the Purple Heart for his brave sacrifices. He owned and operated personal business at the Sinclair Service Station in Thrall and Elgin. Wilton worked for the Civil Defense in Camp Swift, Mineral Wells Naval Air Station, and ultimately retired with the Civil Service in Beeville. While living in Beeville, he served as Post Commander at the VFW #9170 from 1980-1981. He received the Meritorious Unit Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy from July 1991 to February 1993. While in Elgin, he was an active member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, the VFW, and served as a father/son member of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department. To greet him at Heaven's Gate are his mother and father; one son, Michael Charles Frase; and wife, Angie Frase. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Nursing Home, Veterans Hospice Unit "Hero's Haven staff" and Vista Hospice of Temple. The family wishes to receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. A funeral service honoring Wilton's life will be conducted at the Elgin Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7. Interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Arrangements and care are entrusted to the staff of Elgin Funeral Home.
