The Columbus Telegram, March 1974 KULA - Joseph Charles Kula Sr., 84, Rt. 3, Columbus, died Wednesday at his home after a lingering illness. Funeral rites are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church at Platte Center, with the Rev. John C. Starostka officiating, and burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanislaus Kula, he was born Sept. 28, 1889, in Polk county, and attended Polk County and Omaha schools. He was married to Lena Murray May 6, 1914, at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus and they engaged in farming. The long-time Polk and Platte county resident is survived by one son, Joseph Kula Jr. of Platte Center; five grandchildren; two half brothers and two half sisters.
