Graveside services for Walter B. Blackwell, 87, of Chaparral, N.M., and formerly of Plainview will be at 2 p.m. today at Center Plains Cemetery in Cotton Center with the Rev. John Henry Roberts officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. He died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002. He was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Fort Worth and married Alma L. Looney on March 30, 1941, in Plainview. She died Nov. 1, 1981. He was a former member and helped build the Calvary Baptist Church in Plainview. He was a Plainview resident from 1941 until moving to Chaparral in 1965. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in El Paso. A daughter, Opal Harris, died in March 1998. Survivors include three sons, Charles A. Roberts of Maricopa, Ariz., John H. Roberts of Quanah and James E. Blackwell of Chaparral; a daughter, Jean Meeks of Tahoka; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
