Joe (Mike) Mazanec, age 60, of West, died later Wednesday evening, August 12, 1992 in Hill County, Texas. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Marys Catholic Church of the Assumption by Msgr. George Doskocil, Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Marys Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery near West. Mr. Mazanec was born February 17, 1932 in West, the son of Joseph R. and Mary Mazanec. He lived most of his life in West, attended West schools, and graduated from West High School in 1950, prior to attending Texas A&M University. He married Milada Frances Holecek on August 11, 1952 at St. Marys Catholic Church in West. He worked for H.E.B., International Paper Company, General Tire & Rubber Company, and General Dynamics, prior to becoming a self-employed painting contractor in the early 1970s. He was a member of the R.V.O.S. Lodge #46, where he served as financial secretary for the past 27 years; he was a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #6; a member of the K.J.T. Society #31; a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2305; and a member of the 50-50 Club. He was also a life-long member of St. Marys Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, where he was active in the recent remodeling of the church and St. Josephs Hall. He was also an avid camper and gourmet cook and loved to Bar-B-Que. He is preceded in death by one sister, Marie Mazanec Lewis who died January 23, 1988 and two other sisters and a brother who died near birth. He is survived by his wife, Milada Mazanec of West; his mother, Mary Mazanec of West; two sons, Michael G. Mazanec of Carrollton and Jerry R. Mazanec of Chalk Bluff; four daughters, Theresa Wright of Spring, Kathleen McQuitty of Mesa, Arizona, Frances Beeson of Wharton, and Melanie Mazanec of Houston; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Active pallbearers were Larry Hykel, George Hykel, David Holecek, Tommy Holecek, Nathan Holecek, Rusty George, Kenny George, and Jeffrey George. Honorary pallbearers were Ricky George, Gregory Holecek, Jimmy Holecek, Stephen Holecek, Ed Mazanec, III, and Mark Mazanec. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
