Bio

Sterling P. Coffey was a merchant in McKinney, where he ran a livery stable. Sterling and Ida Elizabeth Rountree were married by Elder J.B. Faulkner in Collin County, Texas on July 19, 1886. The Courier-Gazette McKinney, Texas, Thursday, September 21, 1944 Sterling Price Coffey, extensive land owner, financier and business man of McKinney, passed away at 3:40 am Thursday at his home on Benge Street following a two-week serious illness. Mr. Coffey was a Pioneer of Collin County being born June 6, 1862, 3 miles east of Allen. His parents. Sales and Mary Coffey, came to Texas in a wagon train from Kentucky when the state was a republic. They settled near Allen, where the deceased was born and where he lived until he moved to McKinney in early manhood. Sterling Coffey and Miss Ida Elizabeth Rountree were married June 21,1886 at Forest Grove. They were the parents of five children: Mary Frances passed away in 1892, a son Dudley Otto died May 27, 1929. Surviving children are Fred S. Coffey and Miss Hallie Coffey, McKinney and Laurin Price Coffey of Bryan, Texas. Other survivors are two granddaughters, Mrs. Jack Rattan and Mrs. John Lowry of McKinney, a great granddaughter Helen Floyce Rattan and a half sister, Mrs Nancy Jane Ligett of Vashti, Texas. Mrs. Sterling Coffey passed away Sept 6, 1937. Mr. Coffey was a director in the Central National Bank for many years and never missed a director's meeting. For thirty years he was in the Livery and Transfer business. Aye, Allen Rountree FG 47072491
