Bio
He was born in Elyria, Neb., lived on a farm, then graduated from high school in Ord, Neb. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Depression, and then attended the University of Nebraska. He was in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. During this period of service he was a member for a year of a Russian language class at the University of Iowa. He then attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1948. He was a member of the Illinois Bar, the Chicago Bar Association and the Supreme Court of the United States Bar. He was married in 1956 and lived in Park Ridge, Ill. He was an assistant attorney general of the state of Illinois (1961-1963) and was a congressional administrative assistant to a Chicago congressman in Washington, D.C. (1955-1956). He practiced law as a sole practitioner in Illinois for many years after which he became a member of the Michigan Bar before retiring in Glenn, Mich. All his life he was vitally interested in the political scene, running for Congress as a Democrat in one of the most Republican Districts in the country, garnering 92,000 votes. In his retirement years in Pinehurst he enjoyed playing bridge at the local bridge center and with numerous friends. He is survived by his wife, Martha Boehm Kusek; one sister, Adeline Beecham, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his brother, Richard (Marlaine), of Fennville, Mich.; his brother, LJ "Pete" (Ann), of Annandale, Va.; his brother, Eugene, of Albuquerque, N.M.; also by numerous nieces and nephews around the country and cousins in Nebraska. Four of Mr. Kusek's cousins are retired nuns of the Resurrection Order in Chicago. They helped start the Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, now one of the largest hospitals in the area.
