Bio

Son of Sydney (Cyd) A. Williams,(son of Caleb S. Williams and Ruth Pickard Williams); and Mary Catherine Cooper, (dau of Col. Robert Melville Cooper and Catherine Cooper). Husband to Lillie Richerson Williams. Ben Williams came to Texas with his mother soon after his father had died in Tn. He became a horse and cow trader. His wife Lilly Richerson, was born on a ranch several miles east of Cleburne near the old Lee's Academy. Ben was elected county commissioner in 1919 and served for several years; and, in 1925 was elected constable. He was sheriff from 1932-1940. He was the beloved father of Mary E. Records there show that he is buried in Block 43 Lot 20. Almost every grave in Old Cleburne Cemetery was moved to CMC in 1874 when CMC was built.
