Charles was the son of John Wesley Studebaker and Amanda Clementine Kelsey. He had one brother, Joseph and two sisters, Minnie and Mattie Effie. In addition, he was raised with half-siblings Frances, Julia, and Nancy from his mother's first marriage to Bartlett Wesley Fry. Charles was married to Bessie Fountain on April 28, 1901 in Washington Co, AR. His sister Minnie was married to Bessie's brother, Charles. By 1910, Bessie and Charles were the parents of Burl (6), Harry (4), and Charles (1). Both Burl and Harry died about 1918, possibly from influenza. In 1920, Charles was a locomotive engineer and lived with Bessie and their children Charles (11), Juanita (9), and Lester (5) at 214 North F Street, Fort Smith, AR. In the 1930 census, Charles was an "inmate" at the Sebastian County Hospital and Bessie was living at 314 E Street with Lester Edwin (15). Both Charles and Bessie indicated that they were widowed on the census. Charles died the next year and is buried next to his mother, although there is no headstone.
