Bill Loftis JOPLIN — JOPLIN, Mo. — Bill Loftis, age 73, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 9:10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Freeman hospital West following eight years of ill health. Bill was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Southwest City, Mo., the son of Curtis and Thressa Forbes Loftis and had lived in the Joplin area the last 40 years. Bill was a 1955 graduate of the Jay, Okla., high school and was voted honor student of the year. He retired in 2001 as a supervisor for the Azcon Corp., a railway dismantling company. Bill was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and an active member of the Steadfast Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the Southwest City Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included woodworking and fishing. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather and brother. He will be remembered by all for his loving spirit and sense of humor. Bill was married to Darlene Burwell June 1, 1956, near Southwest City, and she survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Gray and husband, Bill, Shawnee, Kan.; one son, Steve Loftis and wife, Sharon, Carterville, Mo.; one sister, Sue Williams and husband, Garry, Joplin; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Grace officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Loftis, Christopher Loftis, Aaron Gray, Garry Williams, Mike McGuirk and Frank McGuirk. The family will receive friends at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Church.
