Bio

Joan Isabelle and her twin sister, Jean Francis, were born June 16, 1938 in Polk County, Nebraska, to Edward J. and Lucie (Farmer) Rolenc. In 1940, the family were farming in Read Township, Butler County, Nebraska. Her parents and siblings were all born in Nebraska. The US Census lists: Edward J. Rolenc, 31, farmer Lucie Rolenc, 28, wife Rita Jean Rolenc, 5, daughter Mary Jo Rolence, 3, daughter Jean Francis Rolenc, 1, daughter Joan Isabelle Rolenc, 1, daughter Joan went to a country school in Ulysses, NE, and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1955. She attended a 2-year College Teacher's course at Concordia College in Seward, NE. She taught at the County Grade School in Beaver Crossing, NE for 2 years before moving to Lincoln, NE, where she worked until moving to New Jersey with her family. Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Lucie (Farmer) Rolenc; and sisters, Rita Hruska, and Mary Josephine Gable. Joan I. Rolenc Bottcher, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at her residence in New Bern, NC. Joan was a former councilperson in Franklin Township, Somerset, New Jersey. She was elected to the council on July 1, 1981, to a four-year term. In 1996, Joan was elected for another four-year term. Joan was deputy mayor in 1997, and became mayor in 1998. By 2002 Joan and her husband, William, were living in New Bern, North Carolina. In 2009 she ran for alderman of New Bern, and she continued to live in New Bern for the rest of her life. She enjoyed working for the people of her community. Joan owned JoneeB Impressions, using photographs and other art to enhance mugs and other practical items, and was a vendor at North Carolina farmer's markets, with a regular booth at New Bern Farmer's Market. She was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, serving in many ministries. Of all the areas, she cherished her opportunity to work with the Eastern Pregnancy Information Center, helping women in crisis to keep their babies. She also served with the Come Home Program, was part of the Advisory Council for the the Senior Pharmacy Program, and helped with Religious Community Services in feeding the needy. In 2005 she worked on the church directory, and represented St. Paul Catholic Church on the New Bern Chamber of Commerce's Non-Profit Council as well as serving as secretary for that council. Joan Bottcher is survived by daughters: Theresa Cruz of Piscataway, N.J.; Dorothy Nordmeyer of Nazareth, Pa.; Christina Dunbar of Hillsborough, N.J., and Julee Bottcher of Monmouth Beach, N.J.; eight grandchildren; sisters: Jean McGarry of Woodbrige, Va.(twin sister); Anita Reid of Carrollton, Ga.; Michaelene Meyer of Manassas, Va., and Bridget Rolenc of Omaha, Neb.; brothers, Edward Rolenc of Iowa and Daniel Rolenc of Colorado. Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Lucie (Farmer) Rolenc; and sisters, Rita Hruska, and Mary Josephine Gable. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Oscar's Mortuary, followed by The Rosary at 7 p.m. Her funeral will be 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at St. Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Building Fund, 3005 Country Club Rd., New Bern, N.C. 28562, or Eastern Pregnancy Information Center of New Bern and Kinston, P.O. Box 1838, Kinston, N.C. 28503.
