Edward Joseph Rolenc Jr., 82, passed away on June 26, 2025, in Iowa City, Iowa. A devoted educator and beloved family man, Edward's life was marked by a deep commitment to learning, teaching, and the quiet joys of craftsmanship and companionship. Born on October 13, 1942, in Seward, Nebraska, Edward was the son of Edward Joseph Rolenc Sr. and Lucie Farmer Rolenc. He pursued his passion for education with determination, earning a Bachelor of Education followed by a Master's degree in Mathematics. These academic achievements laid the foundation for a lifelong career dedicated to teaching and mentoring students across several communities. Edward began his teaching journey in Fremont, Nebraska, later continuing in Mount Pleasant and ultimately settling in Iowa City, Iowa. His love for mathematics and computers along with his ability to connect with students made him a respected figure in every classroom he entered. Even after retiring from formal education, Edward continued to share his knowledge by teaching math at the local Senior Center—an endeavor that reflected both his enduring passion for learning and his generous spirit. Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcia "Marcy" Anliker Rolenc. Together they built a life centered around family and shared values. He was also predeceased by his parents; sisters Rita Rolenc Hruska, Mary Jo Rolenc Gabel, Jean Rolenc McGarry, and Joan Rolenc Bottcher. He is survived by his son Christan Edward Rolenc (Melissa) of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; daughter Megan Rolenc (Chris Bruning) of Elkridge, Maryland; granddaughters Alexia and Aliya Rolenc; and great-granddaughter Avery. His legacy also lives on through his siblings: Anita Rolenc Reid (Hugh) of Carrollton, Georgia; Michaelene Rolenc Meyer (Gary) of Christiansburg, Virginia; Bridget Rolenc (Gary Dreshen) of Omaha, Nebraska; and brother Daniel Rolenc of Calhoun Colorado. Beyond the classroom and family circle, Edward found joy in carving—a hobby that allowed him to express creativity with patience and precision—and reading, which nourished his ever-curious mind. Known affectionately as the "Big Brother" and a steadfast friend to many, Edward's warmth and loyalty left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. No memorial service will be held. Ed wanted everyone to celebrate his life in memories. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City handled the cremation. Ed's wishes were that his ashes be combined with his beloved wife and scattered. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who value knowledge, kindness, and quiet strength.
