Bio

Susan was baptized in Croydon, NH, July 5, 1835. Her granddaughter, Myrtle Pease Lindesmith (daug of Myron) described her as "a saintly soul." She read the Bible to Myrtle and her other grandchildren when she would visit in their home. In fact Myrtle said that she became a Christian while her grandmother, who was visiting at their home, read the Bible to her and prayed with her. Her obit says she was born in Claremont, NH, which is situated on the western border of NH, on the banks of the Sugar River, a branch of the Connecticut River. She married Miles Pease in 1846 in Croydon, NH. About 1846-49 they were in Lowell, Mass & 1850 in Burlington, Vt where Miles ran mills. In 1852 they were in Providence, RI. In 1855 they were back in NH. In 1856 they moved (with extended family) to Winona Co, Minnesota, settling in the NW corner of the county in Whitewater township. In 1860 they left their relatives in Minnesota and moved to Missouri, moving around a bit, but finally settling in 1868 in Douglas Co. Miles died there in 1879 and was buried in the back yard of their place (which has since been destroyed, leaving no grave marker). Susan died 1896 in nearby Howell Co, Mo. Buried in Oak Lawn Cem. with son George, and 2 of George's children, Frank & Ida. Susan's obituary probably from the West Plains, Mo. Quill: "Death of Susan M.M. Pease Death at the age of over 70 years - The funeral this afternoon. At the house of her son, George A. Pease, in this city, yesterday, Susan M. Metcalf Pease, died at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 9 days. She was born in Claremont, N.H., January 2, 1823, and for the last 20? years of her life had lived in Howell Co (Mo), making her home, since the death of her husband in Douglas County in 1879, with her children. There were eight children, five sons and three daughters. The sons are Clarence E., George A., Clint M., Myron and Alando, and the daughters are Ida, Ella, and Minerva. One sister and three brothers survive her. [This would be Ursula, Cyrenus, Obed & probably Edwin] The deceased was an excellent woman and a faithful member of the M.E. church. She had a host of friends who will mingle their tears over her grave, while they extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the M.E. church by Revs. January and Medsker at the conclusion of which the interment took place in the city cemetery." Other children whose graves have not been located and linked Ida Marie Pease, b 1851, d 1896 Douglas Co, MO; m Edward Oscar Wilson.
