Funeral services for Leroy G. Emmons, 68, of 3629 Drexel, Port Arthur, are set for 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Nunnelly-Stanley Chapel of the Chrimes with Richard Hall of the Procter St. Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Mausoleum. A native of Fairfield and an area resident for 31 years, Mr. Emmons died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had received his B.S. and M.S. from Texas University and had been employed in the public schools of Freestone County as a teacher, volleyball, basketball and tennis coach. Mr. Emmons served three years as principal in Fairfield schools and from there he accepted the superintendent position of the Streetman schools. Mr. Emmons joined the Internal Revenue Service in 1943 as a Deputy Collector in Port Arthur where he served for 30 years. He was a member of the Photographic Society of America and had been quite active as a representative for the organization. He was the newly elected director of the South Jefferson County Red Cross and a member of the Masonic organization. He was also a member of the National Retired Federal Employes. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Wanda Emmons of Port Arthur; one daughter, Mrs. Julia McCabe of Fairbanks, Alaska; three brothers, Olin S. Emmons of Spurger, Duane Emmons of Cleburne and Franklin Emmons, both of Port Arthur; five sisters, Mrs. Earl Harrison and Mrs. Viola Robinson, both of Waco, Mrs. Roy Lett of Mountain Park, Okla., Mrs. Elbert York of Synder and Mrs. Zelda Thompson of Fairfield. Pallbearers will be Don Henley, Karyl Mashburn, Dr. Jack Taylor, Roy Byrd, Charles Ross and Charles Poston. Honorary pallbearers will be L. D. Fairley, Arthur McBride, Robert Mabry, Forest Hearst and Horton Porter. Published in The Port Arthur News, November 25, 1974
