Bio

Mary passed away Wednesday in a local nursing home. She was born to the late William Boone Prestridge, who was raised in Texarkana, and Ruby Alice (Hawkins) Prestridge, from the Ozias Community east of Huntington. William had come to East Texas in the late 1890's with his family of Prestridges and Frosts, who were timber people with Frost Johnson Lumber of Texarkana and Shreveport. These two families were a large part of the building of the mill and town that we know of called Lufkin Land Lumber Co. The company was later sold to Long Bell Lumber and Mrs. Ivy's family moved to Texarkana. She lost both of her parents in 1918 and moved to Huntington in 1919. Mary married B.C. Ivy December 24, 1920 and began a marriage that lasted until his death in 1964. She had resided in Huntington since 1919 and been a member and faithful servant of Huntington First Baptist Church since 1921. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of forty four years, Bolivar Cleveland Ivy; sons, W.J. Ivy and wife Joan, and D.P. Ivy and wife Loretta, and George P. Ivy; daughter, Gloria Ivy Kirkland and husband Cecil; daughter-in-law, Marie Ivy; grandsons, George P. Ivy, Jr., David Pomykal and Bruce Ivy; sister, Lucille Prestridge Hudiburgh Hays; and brother, J.W. Prestridge and wife Jofa. Survivors include her son, Edwin Ivy, sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Barbara Ivy, Jerry and Carolyn Ivy and Richard and Joy Ivy; daughter-in-law, Mildred Ivy; twenty nine grandchildren; numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services in the Huntington First Baptist Church with Reverend Richard Ivy and Dr. Darryl Smith officiating, with Ted Ivy, Sr. giving a eulogy. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.
