Daughter of Ethyl Ray Coates and Bertram Thomas Williams. Flossie Argeree McAlister PORTALES, N.M. - Flossie Argeree Williams McAlister, 84, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in University Drive Church of Christ with Ron Cope officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. McAlister was born in Ada, Okla., and raised in White House, Texas. She graduated from North Texas University at Denton, Texas, and moved to Plains, Texas, where she became the home demonstration agent. She married Winburn Benson "Ben'' McAlister in 1941 at Plains. She lived in Plains until moving to San Antonio after her husband joined the Army. They moved to other duty locations during World War II but settled at Delphos, west of Portales, in 1946. They farmed there and ran dairy cattle. In 1952, they moved to the Bethel community and continued to farm. In 1962, they closed the dairy portion of their farm but continued farming until 1971, when they retired. They then moved to Clovis. Mr. McAlister died in 1977. Mrs. McAlister returned to Portales. She was active in the Bethel Homemakers Club and the Portales Woman's Club. Survivors include three sons, Floyd Winburn McAlister and Charles Allen McAlister, both of Portales, and Thomas Edward McAlister of Floyd; a brother, Leonard Williams of Amarillo; six grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing before services. Son Floyd Winburn McAlister (1944-2008) is buried in Floyd Cemetery, Roosevelt County NM.
