Married Sep 10 1851 JoDaviess Co, IL Other children: Walter Beers (b. 1870 IA) Albert Barnes (1875 IA-1950 WI) ============== Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Wednesday, 21 November 1923, page 2 Pioneer Woman Has Passed Into Beyond Loup City, Nebr., Nov. 19 - Mrs. James C. Fletcher, age 91 years and ten months, and one of Sherman county's pioneers, was buried yesterday at Austin cemetery near here. Mr. Fletcher preceded his wife to the great beyond, he having died about three months ago at their home near Boelus. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher were among the very early settlers of Sherman county, they having taken homesteads here when the county was in it infancy, and those of today owe much to these faithful folks who first came here, who worked and toiled and fought that they might open up a new country. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher have had one great joy in life, the like of which comes to but a few, that was to see the vast development of this country, and to know that they were largely responsible for it. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher each died at the age of 91 years, and had been married seventy-two years upon the death about three months ago of the husband. They leave to mourn their loss, nine children, forty grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
