Bio

Gypsy Chrystelle Ray, 97, of the Shiloh Community, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 in Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 29, 2014 in the First Baptist Church of Cooper with Rev. Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday at the church. Mrs. Ray was born in Delta County on December 27, 1916, the daughter of William Otto Rushing and Tommie Ruth Armour Rushing. She married Jimmie Edd Ray on July 5, 1940 and he preceded her in death on February 17, 1997. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cooper. Mrs. Ray had worked for LTV Aeronautics, she had helped start the Delta County Library, she served as secretary of the First Baptist Church of Klondike for 35 years. She enjoyed gardening and quilting and had been selected as volunteer of the year for the American Cancer Society at one time. She drove her car until she was 93. She is survived by two sons; John Ray of Shiloh, and Charles Ray and wife Valencia of Tyler, a daughter; Ann Miller and husband Marion of Cooper, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Delta County Library.
