Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Tuesday, 15 April 1969 Howard Paul Elvers, 58, of 1111 N. Lincoln, a veteran of World War II died Monday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. G. B. Haag will officiate. Burial will be in the Loup Fork Cemetery near Dannebrog. Mr. Elvers was born on a farm near Dannebrog in the Dry Creek Community. He attended schools there. In 1936 he came to Grand Island where he worked as a car man for the Union Pacific Railroad. He began serving with the Corps of Engineers in 1941 in Alaska. He was discharged in August, 1944, and returned to Grand Island to work with the railroad. He retired in 1962. On Aug. 8, 1941, he married Pearl Eva Payton at York. They made their home in Grand Island ever since that time. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (LaVonne) Harris of Grand Island and Mrs. Robert (Avis Ellen) Blase of Palo Alton, Calif.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Bertha) Eriksen and Mrs. C. Erwin Paulson of Omaha; three brothers, John of Fort Calhoun, Joe of Fredericksburg, Va., and Harold of Blair. He was preceded in death by his parents.
