Bio

Neva Abernathy, 100, of Sullivan died 8:10 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 22, 1997) in Sullivan Health Care Center. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Mrs. Abernathy was born in Shelby County on June 4, 1896, the daughter of James Edward and Elizabeth Cazier Wallace. She had been a country school teacher in Moultrie County, then became a registered nurse working in Evanston Hospital. She married John Abernathy in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1956. Surviving are her sister, Bessie Cole of Sullivan; nieces and nephews, Betty Booker Purdeu, William Booker, Richard Booker, Wallace Booker and Dorothy Warren, all of Sullivan; Judy Booker Shaw of Avondale, Ariz.; Elouise Booker Ary of Farmington, N.M.; Jack Cole and Wallace Cole of Sullivan; Betty Cole Jones of San Antonio, Texas; Gene Cole of Decatur; Carolyn Munroe of Las Vegas, Nev.
