Bio

William was the first husband of Amelia Ann (Fredregill) Close Hunt (1842-1922). They were married on October 11, 1861 in Story County, Iowa and they had one son, Albert Close (1862-1891). William was a Civil War Veteran of the Union Army. He enlisted in Company B, Iowa 15th Infantry Regiment on March 1, 1862. He died of congestive fever during his service to his country on March 18, 1862 at Keokuk, Iowa. William was the son of William Reece Close and his first wife, Belinda Varnum (Smith) Close. William had 8 siblings. William's great grandfather was Benjamin Close, a Revolutionary War patriot.
