Raymond John Honza, Sr., age 84, of Ennis passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 at his home. Raymond was born December 28, 1924 in Ennis, Texas to Frank J. and Anna (Dvorak) Honza. He attended school at the Laneview School. On October 8, 1949 he married Leona Ann Valek, and they made their home in Ennis. Raymond served as a Sargeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, served with distinction in the European Theatre and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism. Mr. Honza was able to attend the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. last year where he paid his respects to his fallen comrades. Raymond worked for over 50 years as a carpenter. Raymond was a member of the St. John Catholic Church of Ennis and the KJT. Raymond is survived by his wife Leona; one son Raymond J. Honza, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Ennis; one daughter Linda Tolston and her husband Floyd of Ennis; two sisters: Agnes Garrard of Ennis and Mildred Patak of Ennis; five grandchildren: Nathan, Brandon, Dylan and Caroline Honza and Jessica Liska and her husband Paul. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Frank W. and Charlie L. Honza and a nephew, Bobby Honza. Visitation was Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. in the Keever Chapel. Funeral services were Thursday, April 23, 2009, 10 a.m. at the St. John Catholic Church, Ennis with Interment following at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Ennis. Services were be under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Pall Bearers: Grandsons Nathan Honza, Brandon Honza and Dylan Honza, Grandson-in-law Paul Liska, Nephews Jimmy Svehlak, Gary Svehlak, David Svehlak, Benny Valek and Ronnie Honza. Honorary Pall Bearers: Granddaughters Jessica Tolston Liska and Caroline Honza. Donations may be made to the Honor Flight of Ellis County, Scholarship Fund.
