Agnes Garrard, 96, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024, with family by her side. Agnes was born on October 18, 1927, to Frank and Anna (Dvorak) Honza in Ennis. She graduated at age 16 from Ennis High School in 1944. She entered the workforce with her first job as a factory worker at Fallen's Electric in 1945. In 1946, she became office manager and bookkeeper for Todd Pontiac in Ennis. It was here that, while helping to work the parts counter, she met her future husband, George W. Garrard. G.W., a recent graduate of Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, had moved to Ennis to begin his career as a soil conservationist with the U.S.D.A., and happened to drive a Pontiac which needed a part. The rest, as they say, is history. G.W. and Agnes were married on February 9, 1957. The couple had two daughters, Amy and Gayle. In 1964, Agnes' career came full circle as she accepted a position as office manager, bookkeeper and secretary/treasurer for Ennis Automotive, Inc., working for her first boss, Raymond Fallen, who also owned Fallen's Electric. She retired from the company in December of 1991, and continued to serve as an advisory director on the board of directors. Agnes loved her career and was grateful for the opportunities she was given by the Fallen family. After her retirement, she turned her attention and energy to her three grandchildren, Adam, Ethan and Rebecca Chavoya. Affectionately known as "Baba" by her grandchildren and their friends, she played a huge part in their upbringing. She tirelessly carted them to and from school, doctor's appointments and fun outings, especially trips to Sonic for a treat after school. Baba and Pop Pop were regulars at the Chavoya kids' sporting events and school programs. Agnes loved Polka music and was a huge sports fan, especially Ennis Lions football and Texas Rangers baseball. Agnes was a member of St. John Catholic Church, KJZT Lodge 16, and a spousal member of NARFE Chapter 1191, where she had served as secretary and historian. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandchild, Aaron Taylor Chavoya, and son-in-law, Rick Chavoya. Visitation and rosary will be on Wednesday, September 18 from 6-8 pm at J.E. Keever Funeral Home in Ennis. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis on Thursday, September 19, at 10:00 am. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ennis. The family would like to thank Brookdale Assisted Living of Ennis, Bristol Hospice and Legend Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility of Ennis for the love and care they poured into Agnes this last year. Their support truly made a difference in her quality and enjoyment of life.
