Jeff was orphaned at age 11 and was raised by his aunt Amy Mann and her husband James Ewing Beall. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 26 Jul 1938 at Stillwater, Payne, Oklahoma, and was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii Territory, at the time of the 1940 census. He reenlisted at Camp Roberts, California, 26 Jul 1941, as a Sergeant, Field Artillery, for the Philippine Department. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant on 6 Jul 1945. Wilford Jeff Mann married Zelma Molene Swain, daughter of Frank Swain and Ada Allen, on 14 May 1944, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tustin, Orange, California. Witnesses were Wilbur Monroe Stephens and Thelma Irene Swain Stephens, Zelma's twin sister. He and Wilbur were stationed at Fort Pickett, Virginia, at the time. [California Marriages, Orange, Vol. 248, p.80, No. 14731] Jeff settled in Tustin where he worked as an auto mechanic. He moved to Anchorage in 1988. His favorite pastimes were watching Western movies and playing dominos. His obituary was published in the Anchorage Daily News , 4 Feb 1993.
