wife Gracie Mae Corder parents George Preston and Nannie Elizabeth Holbrook Robinette
Hansford Neal Robinette, age 93, passed away July 15, 2009. Born Sept. 13, 1915, he was the son of the late George Preston and Nannie Elizabeth Holbrook Robinette, and was of the Baptist faith. "Hank," as he was well known to his many friends and family, was a retired farmer, coal miner, small engine repairman, carpenter and possessed the ability to fix just about anything. Hank being a steam engine, train and railroad buff was featured in The Jitterbug, September 2002, a magazine published quarterly by the Carolina Clinchfield Chapter of the National Historical Society. In the article, Hank told about the years living near and around the Carolina Clinchfield and Ohio Railroad (CC&O), which is now CSX. The article stated Hank was a "good neighbor of the railroad." The trains would come roaring down or up the track and as each train passed through Carfax the engineers knew Hank would be giving them a friendly hello wave from his front porch. In addition, Hank was featured in the "Coeburn, Virginia area History - Celebrating the Centennial of the Town of Coeburn," a book published in 1994, along with a picture (p. 375) and his recollection to the history of the Carfax era and his dad having a general store in the 1920s. Hank has been a friend and good neighbor to the community. He was always the go-to person when something needed repairing in the community and was available to help with any type of assistance one might need. Hank possessed the knack to always figure out how to fix something and make it work. The wave to the engineers will be missed and the comfort he gave his family and friends will be missed. Hank was the last member of the George P. and Nannie E. Robinette family of 11 children that began in the late 1890s. In addition to his parents, Hansford was preceded in death by five sisters, Sylvia Elswick, Estelle Robinette, Effie Brooks, Fonda Hamm and Alma Dixon; five brothers, Calvin, Larson, Landon, Cecil and Rollie Robinette; grandson, Dewayne Musick; grandson-in-law, Robert Hale; and son-in-law, Billy P. Hite. Hansford is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gracie May Corder Robinette; three daughters, Lena M Hite, Morristown, Tenn., Dorothy Musick and Lawrence Musick, Coeburn, Va., and Jeanette R Ringley and husband Gerald, Hickory, N.C.; two sons, Ray W Robinette and wife, Brenda C., Coeburn and Larry N. Robinette and wife, Linda, Cedar Vale, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Debra Hale, Angela Good, Billy Ray Hite, Tim and Tony Robinette, Kelly Robinette, Kim Auton and Christopher Robinette; granddaughter-in-law, Diana Musick; eight great-grandchildren, Justin Hite, Megan Musick, Morgan Hite, Ryan Robinette, Tyler Robinette, Erica Robinette, Kailey Good and McKenzie Mason; sister-in-law, Mary D Robinette; and three very special longtime friends, C.T. "Bud" Brooks Jr., Arch Jordan and Albert Peterson. Visitation will be held Friday, July 17, 2009, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Estes Funeral Home, Coeburn. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Estes Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held at Temple Hill Cemetery following the service.
