OBITUARY: appeared in Monroe Legacy newspaper 13 May, 1999, Monroe, Jasper, Iowa SERVICES HELD--Services for Flossie Alice Marshall were held Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Monroe. Rev. Karen Merrill, Pastor, officiate the services. Interment was in Silent City cemetery in Monroe. Flossie Alice Marshall, age 95, passed away at the home of her granddaughter, LuAnn DeHaan, near Otley on Saturday, May 8, 1999. Flossie was born November 20, 1903, near Monroe, the daughter of John and Eliza (Nolin) Wood. Flossie attended the Monroe High School, and on December 26, 1922, she was united in marriage to Hubert Marshall at the parsonage of the Monroe Methodist Church. Together they farmed east of Monroe until retiring to Monroe in 1973. Hubert preceded her in death in 1991. Flossie, a former member of the Tool's Chapel Methodist Church, was currently a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. She had been a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Edward Johnson of Otley, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Hubert J. and Betty Marshall of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and a daughter-in-law Marlys Marshall of Alta, Iowa. Also surviving to honor her memory are thirteen grandchildren, Lloyd and Laurel Johnson, LaVon Roth, LuAnn DeHaan, Linda VanHemert; David, Brian, Craig, and Todd Marshall; Steven and Richard Marshall, Bard Henning, Sandra Sextro; twenty-four great-grand children, and two great-great-grandchildren. Flossie enjoyed crocheting and journaling. Her life has served as an inspiration to her descendents. Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents, a son, Paul, and two brothers, Clell and Loyd Wood. Memorials to the Monroe United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa have been suggested.
