Son of James Monroe and Georgeann Howard Chapman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James, Marion Elmo, Alvie Franklin, John Ward, and Florence Monroe; and sister, Mary Victoria. Surviving him were brothers, William Jasper, Harvey Carroll, George Washington, Howard L, Charles Spurgeon, and Jeff; sister, Julia Chapman.
