Battle Creek Enquirer and News, August 1954 Thomas A Devereaux Thomas A Devereaux, 66, of 119 E VanBuren Street; a lifelong resident of Battle Creek area, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday in a local hospital following a long illness. He had been in failing health since April 1953, when he retired from the Kellogg Co, where he had been employed for 28 years as a food processor. He had been seriously ill for the past six months. Mr. Devereaux was born March 29, 1888, in Convis Township, a son of Thomas and Anna (Mahar) Devereaux. He was a World War I Army Veteran. He was married October 20, 1921, to the former Cecelia Whalen of Battle Creek in St. Phillip Catholic Church. Mr. Devereaux was a member of that church, a member of the Holy Name Society and of the Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife, survivors include a son Richard E Devereaux of the VanBuren Street address; a granddaughter, Shari Kay, of the same address; two brothers, Richard Devereaux of 69 Nichols Stree and Nickolas Devereaux of Marshall; six sisters, Mrs. Anne Poth of 146 W Manchester St, Mrs. Ruth Newman of 277 W. Burnham St., Mrs. Pauline Akins of Renton Road, Battle Creek Township, Miss Agnes Devereaux of Jackson, Mrs. Bernadine Sheneman of Topinabee, Mich., and Sister Mary Magdalene, superior sister of St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, and several nieces and nephews.
