ISAAC SLAUGH DEAD Isaac Slaugh died last Saturday night at his home four miles south of Vernal, of stomach trouble. The funeral was held Monday in the Davis Ward house and was conducted by Bishop Simper. The burial was in the Naples Cemetery. The casket was covered with flowers. Mr. Slaugh was 55 years old. He leaves a wife and nine children, eight by the present wife and one by the first wife. He leaves also two brothers and one sister. Ben C. Slaugh resides in the valley. The other brother and the sister reside in Utah County. George Slaugh and John Slaugh, of the valley, are cousins of the deceased, who was a man highly exteemed in the community. -Vernal Express, August 14, 1914, transcribed by Rhonda Holton In 1868, Isaac Ivory at the age of 10 traveled with his parents and siblings in the Daniel D. McArthur group. The emigrants arrived in Benton, where they met their teamsters on August 7 and left a week later. The company included 411 passengers and 61 wagons. Twenty-five of the wagons were loaded with goods destined for stores in Salt Lake, including the new Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution. They traveled in a northwesterly direction from Benton through Whiskey Gap and northward from there until they reached the Sweetwater River and joined the old emigrant road. They arrived in Salt Lake on September 2. Seven people, mostly young children, died en route. He married Annie Elizabeth Culmer January 2, 1884. She was born About 1862 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Ella Johnson 26 Sep 1894 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.
