Jamestown Sun, North Dakota, 11 June 2009 Harold Martel, 78, Mayville, N.D., formerly of Medina, N.D., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Union Hospital, Mayville. Mr. Martel was born July 17, 1930, in Medina, the son of Ernest and Mary (Hins) Martel. He grew up and attended school in Medina. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on Feb. 20, 1952, in Fargo, N.D. He was discharged Feb. 11, 1954 with the rank of private first class. He married Annette Ambrose on Nov. 15, 1958, in Fargo. He worked for Great Plains Supply lumber yards, Fessenden, N.D., and Finley N.D., for more than 30 years. He retired in 1995 and they moved from Sharon, N.D., to Mayville. He was a member of the Congregational Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, reading western novels, dogs, horses and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Steve (Lori) and Mitchell (Dionna), both Fargo; two brothers, Richard (Patricia) and Marvin (Donna), both Bismarck, N.D.; six sisters, Rosie (Frank) Bohn and Jacqualine (Rudolph) Hoffmann, both Medina, Delores (John) Mittleider, Dorothy (Thomas) Mahoney and Linda (Dean) Jose, all Bismarck, and Ruth Martel, Denver, Colo.; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, United Church of Christ, Medina, with Pastor Karl Limvere officiating. Visitation: one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown. Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina.
