Bio

Mary was the daughter of Georg Fredrich Moser, Sr. and Maria Barbara Lieser. Mary's father, "Frederick" Moser, Sr., was born on 03 Mar 1722 in Breitenau, Middle Franken (now Bavaria), Germany. His name sometimes appears in old records as Johann Fredrich Moser. Frederick came to the American Colonies with his parents, Johann Martin Moser and Margaretha Schwembaur, when he was 6-years-old. They traveled on board the James Goodwill and arrived on 11 Sep 1728. Mary's mother, "Barbary" Lieser, was born about 1731 in Alsace, Switzerland. She was the daughter of Benedict, Sr. and Barbara Lieser. Their surname sometimes appears as Loscher, Luser and many other variations. Barbary came to the Colonies at the age of 7 with her parents on 03 Sep 1739 aboard a ship called the Robert and Alice of Dublin . Frederick and Barbary were married on 22 Apr 1750 at New Hanover Lutheran Church in New Hanover Township, Montgomery County in the Pennsylvania Colony. Their oldest child, Jacob Moser, was born there about 1751. [See below for a complete list of Mary's siblings and their approximate birth/death years.] The Moser family moved from Pennsylvania to Orange County, North Carolina around 1763. About that time, Frederick became a co-founder of St. Paul Lutheran Church, which was located near their new home. Born in the Colony of North Carolina, Mary Magdalene was the 13th of the Mosers' 14 children. At least 2 of Mary's brothers, Michael and Abraham Moser, fought in the Revolutionary War. Mary married Barnabas Butcher about 1793 in Johnson County, Tennessee. Her mother, Barbary, died 3 years after Mary's marriage, and her father, Frederick, died around March of 1800. Both parents died in Orange County, North Carolina where they had decided to remain as several of their children chose to move west with other early pioneers. Mary and Barnabas were the parents of 11 children, all born in Tennessee. Mary and her husband eventually moved to Monroe County, Indiana in the 1820's or 1830's. At the time of her death, Mary was about 66-years-old. She was survived by her husband, Barnabas, who passed away in 1843. Children: 7 sons, 4 daughters.
