BOBBY GENE (BOB) DEMENT Bobby Gene (Bob) Dement, 80, of Sweetwater died on June 1, 2009, after a courageous four-year battle with lung cancer. He died in the comfort of his home. Bob was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Roscoe. He graduated from Roscoe High School in 1946 and began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone where he was employed for 37 years, retiring in Sweetwater. Bob married Dorothy Lee Simpkins on June 11, 1949 who was his faithful loving wife of 55 years until her death in 2004. Bob and Dorothy spent two years in Missouri during his military service with the Army, returning to Midland, Texas to raise a family. Southwestern Bell transferred Bob and his family to Amarillo, Pampa, Lubbock and Sweetwater. Bob was an avid golfer and a member of the Sweetwater Country Club for the past 28 years. Bob loved his family deeply and extended that love to his many friends. Throughout his life, Bob taught us all courage, strength, and determination. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a strong work ethic and love of family and was actively involved in their activities. Bob is survived by his current wife of three years, Mary; his daughter, Teri Pender and husband Dan of Midland; his son, Mark Dement and wife Jo Ann of Round Rock; and four grandchildren, Daniel (Jennifer) and Alan Pender of Midland; Brenda (Ryan) Langston of Leander; and Hope Cowan of Houston. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Layne Pender, Tyler Cowan and Kaden Langston; and by two of his four sisters, Mozelle Stewart and Hazel Pearce. His father and mother, Lural and Jessie Dement, and two sisters, Mary Marcum and Esta Lee Hawkins, preceded him in death. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews, and many friends who he loved dearly. Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Sweetwater with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating. Interment will be in the Roscoe Cemetery in Roscoe, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
