ROSINTON Bartis Stanton Bartis "Red" Stanton, 91, died Friday, March 27, 2009. He was a resident of Rosinton and performed for many years with the Alabama Jubilee Band around the South, on television and radio. He moved to Florida in 1954, where he worked as a union carpenter and supervisor until his retirement in 1979. He then moved back to his hometown of Rosinton and remained active in country music through the Mobile County Country Music Association, now located in Chickasaw. He was a member of the association for more than 20 years, serving as trustee and a member of the board of directors. He was the second member to be inducted into the MCCMA Hall of Fame. He was also a member of Styx River Bluegrass Band, performing at various functions and festivals in the area. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 804 for more than 60 years. He served as Past Worthy Patron Star Chapter No. 150 in Hollywood, Fla. He is survived by Dale Stanton, his wife of 61 years; two daughters, Barbara Staples of Rosinton and Joy Evans of Carson City, Nev..; two sons, Harlin Stanton of Rosinton and Gaines Stanton of Wewahitchka, Fla.; four sisters, Iona French of Gulf Breeze, Hazel Chris Tillman of Ponca, Okla., Margurite Leffard of Mobile, and Euline Hall of Sykesville, Md.; a brother, Elvin Stanton of Montgomery; and 12 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale. The Rev. Mike White will officiate and burial follows at Baldwin Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to Mobile Country Music Association Building Fund, to Robertsdale Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund or to a charity of choice.
