Nancy "Jane" Groome Lowe, 89, was a resident of Cleveland, TN for 47 years. She died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in a local hospital. She was born in Groometown, NC on September 2, 1919. Jane was a devoted family woman. She loved being a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the choir, the United Methodist Women, the Martha Hall circle, and the Veva Thompson Sunday school class. She truly loved her church, and she had a strong family history in Methodism. She was a President's Club level Avon lady for 44 years. She attended Greensboro College before getting married. She was a great cook-famous for her bread and her mints. She was a beloved friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Stanley Wright Lowe, Sr., and their daughter Anne Lowe McMahon. Her parents were Zachariah Lee Groome and Minnie Armfield Groome. Jane Lowe is survived by her three children and her son in law: Lynne Lowe Hines, Stanley W. Lowe, Jr. and Jill, and Joel Andrew Lowe, and son-in-law Carl E. McMahon. She had 6 granddaughters: Molly McMahon Brown and Jeff, Dina Hines Dell and Scott, Susan McMahon Berry and Dee, Nancy L. Hines, Jessica Lowe and Lindsey A. Lowe. She had 9 great-grandchildren: Jake Brown, Brett Brown, Cohen Lowe, Bree Dell, Madison Dell, Hope Dell, and Noa Dell. Jane was a sister to: Jessie Groome Phillips, Percy Lee Groome, James Gordon Groome, Nell Groome Cline, Charles Armfield Groome, Annie Groome Donald, Wilbur Z.Groome, Henry Houston Groome, Aubrey Bryan Groome. She has one living sister-Mary Ruth Groome Coble in Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at First United Methodist Church on North Ocoee Street from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at the church on Friday, May 22nd at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Military Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Grissom Funeral Home.
