Co I 85th Illinois Infantry applied for pension in 1883. Passed away the same day he was admitted to the Pacific Branch National Home for Disabled Soldiers. He was widowed, his son Homer Groff of Bellingham, Washington was listed as next of kin. Reported to be 62 years of age when admitted to VA home.
