Obituary Katie Lee Slagel The Lawrence Democrat 6 Jan 1905 Katie Lee daughter of Leonides O. and Martha J. Slagel was born in Lawrence Co., Tenn., July 16 1884. Died Dec. 4, 1904, being 20 years, 4 months and 18 days old. She leaves father, mother, 2 sisters and 3 brothers beside many other dear relatives and friends to mourn her early departure from this life to the life to come. The most of her life was full of promise, she was bright and very intelligent with many winning ways. She had a warm place in her heart for all her friends, and they had the same for her. The news of her death will strike sorrow to many hearts for she had a large circle of friends. But we sorrow not as those that have no hope. While she made no public profession of Christianity yet she left us evidence that she expected a better life in the beyond, and asked the family to meet her over there. One by one our friends are passing. One by one our hearts made lonely. For we learned to love their presence. In our homes though ere so lonely. But a brighter day is coming When we too will hear the word And be ready for summons and Will receive a bright reward. Let us hasten to be ready The time may be drawing nigh When we may leave this sin cursed world And dwell in peace with God on high. A. L. Wheatley
