She was born to Moses Trader and Eliza Jane Adamson Shepherd. She was their first born out of nine children. She married Benjamin Franklin Barney 08 Apr 1856 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah Together they had the following children: Priscilla Jane, Benjamin, Thomas Jefferson, Eldora, Ida May, Jacob, Margarette Matilda, Eliza, Evaline, Ammon, Aretta, Elias, Joshua, and Moses Daniel Barney.
