Local man dies on road Robertsdale resident Vernon Eugene Allen, 75, was killed Friday night after being hit by a car 25 miles east of Bay Minette, according to Alabama state troopers. Troopers said Allen was walking along Alabama Highway 112 at 7:50 p.m. when he was hit by a car driven by Richard C. Jeffries, 24, of Cantonment, Fla. Allen was pronounced dead on the scene. Published Wednesday, October 24, 1984, The Independent, Robertsdale, Alabama, Page 2A ALLEN Mr. Vernon Eugene "Buck" Allen, 75, a native of Gateswood, Alabama and a resident of Clear Springs, died Oct. 19 from injuries received in an accident. Mr. Allen was retired from St. Regis Paper Company where he was a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church, Church School Superintendent at Farm Hill United Methodist Church where he was an active member. He served on the Board of Directors of Bell Fountain Hunting Club. He was an appointed Special Deputy. Funeral services were held Oct. 22 from Farm Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. John Kuritz officiating. Interment was in Allen Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Brill Allen, Clear Springs, Al.; three daughters, Lois Busey, Pensacola, Thelma Patrick, Ocala, Fla., Nancy Cook, Clear Springs; three sons, Edmond Hare, Robertsdale, Jack Allen, Pensacola, and Thomas Allen, Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, Elsie Pearl Pittman, Clear Springs and Myrtle E. Sanders, Gateswood, Al.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mattie Mae Brill, Robertsdale; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Arrangements were by Mack Funeral Home, Robertsdale.
