His name is also inscribed at the National AIDS Memorial Grove. ============== Excerpts from a full obituary in Bay Area Reporter, San Francisco, California, 23 Dec 2004: Michael Garrett, a longtime San Francisco DJ and owner of the now closed CD Record Rack, died in his sleep on December 10. He was 52. The cause of death has yet to be determined, friends said. Mr. Garrett, who was HIV-positive, had been suffering from peripheral neuropathy. Mr. Garrett, who grew up outside Austin, Texas, came to San Francisco around 1976. He achieved fame playing at the I-Beam, Trocadero, Galleria, and Giftcenter parties. He is survived by three brothers; his partner, Robert Kimler; and friends Steve Fabus, himself a celebrated San Francisco DJ, Randy Schiller, Sam Schneider, Jerry Bonham, Jimmy Horde; as well as many other friends, associates, and admirers. A gathering of friends will celebrate Mr. Garrett's time in their lives on Saturday, January 15 at 2 p.m. at Moby Dick, 4089 18th Street in the Castro. ============== Michael Lowell Garrett, age 52, died Friday, December 10, 2004, in San Francisco, California, where he had lived for 27 years. Mr. Garrett was formerly of Austin. Michael's lifetime passions were his family, friends, movies and music. He was a charter member of the Austin Film Society before his move to California, where he remained involved in the entertainment industry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ethelyn Garrett. Survivors are his three brothers and niece. Services will be held in San Francisco, California.
