Bio
Merrifield was awarded one of the earliest recorded Land Grants in the Cedar Hill area. In 1849, the Merrifield brothers from KY were among the first to arrive in Dallas County, by ox-drawn wagon. Milton's father was John "Jack" Merrifield. Milton married Margaret Ann Singleton in KY; she was born 13 May 1824 and died 22 February 1901. They had nine children: Jeff, Sue Ellen (who married James Bracken Bryan, nephew of John Neely Bryan), Mattie, Mary Jenny, Fannie (who married Samuel Hunnicutt), Ester, Effie, Elizabeth (who married Scott Beeman, and Margaret Ann (who married Henry Forrest Haswell).
