Obituary for John (Johnnie) Hamilton Thomas Johnnie H Thomas fifth son of John and Esther (Van Vleet)Thomas, was born February 4, 1890 on a farm southeast of Danbury, Nebraska, and was released from his suffering by the angel of death at a hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska, December 31 1949, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 27 days. His entire life had been spent in this community where he had successfully engaged in general framing and stock raising until about five years ago, when on account of his failing health he and his wife moved from the farm to Danbury where they have resided since. He was untied in marriage to Miss Susan (Susie) Seeman at McCook, Nebraska, February 26, 1916. Four daughters come to bless this happy home and survive to help bring comfort and consolation to their sorrowing mother. Johnnie as he was familiarly of a quiet retiring disposition, known by his many friends, was busying himself with his own work and his labor of love for his family. It was not that he was not interested in the affair of those around him and was ever ready to do his full share in helping wherever and whenever he could but he did not want to push himself forward. He also felt that each knew his own affair best and that he could be most helpful if he kept himself ready to do his part when called upon. His philosophy was the beauty of life's music was to be found, not so much in it's high or low notes, but rather that these were made resonant and effective by the sustaining medium tones. Many clamor for places of prominence and so called leadership and unhappy if such are dined them, but Johnnie Thomas was one of those rare souls who, contented oneself with duty well done. One of America's greatest citizens paid tribute to these noblemen of "God when he said, God Must Have Loved the Common Man" for "He Made so Many of Them." For the past several years Mr. Thomas had been in failing health and he had been especially afflicted for the past two years, although he received little relief for his malady. He patiently endured his affliction with fortitude and courage. Besides his sorrowing wife, Mrs. Susie Thomas, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Viola Zebo of Gardena, California, Mrs. Bessie Knight and Mrs. June Grossman of Danbury; and Mrs. Letha Turkovich of Richmond, California; two brothers, George of Grants Pass, Oregon, Cyrus of Lebanon; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Harris of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Nellie Haag of Indianola; and Mrs. Notie Nokes of Danbury; besides a great host of other sorrowing relatives and friends who mourn his untimely passing. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 4th at 2 p.m. at the Lord's Funeral Home in Danbury. Rev. R.A. Jeffry of Grenta, Nebraska officiated. The singers were Mrs. Joyce Weyeneth and Mrs. Carol Thomas. They were accompanied by Miss Gwenie Green. The pallbearers were Wm. Hindman, George Fisher, Norman Keith, Harley Breach, Barnes Ashton and Sam Johnson. Interment was in the Danbury cemetery.
