Bio

Our precious Martha B. Martinka, 86, of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009. She was born to Thomas Strmiska and Emma Mazac Strmiska on May 30, 1922 in Granger, Texas. On November 22, 1938, she married Paul Martinka at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, Texas. They moved to Georgetown in 1941 and became members of Saint Helen Catholic Church where Mrs. Martinka served our Lord through service to others. She was a very active member by teaching religious education; hosting many organization's parties and events; being chairperson in the kitchen for the parish festivals for over twenty years; and being involved with the adoration and bereavement ministries. Mrs. Martinka was a loving wife and mother who devoted herself to caring for her family and all those around her. She loved cooking for her family and others and also spent time in her flower and vegetable gardens. In the 1960's she was employed at Neumann department store in Georgetown, Texas and later worked at Southwestern University until 1981 where she formed many lasting friendships. Mrs. Martinka was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Albert Strmiska, Frances Harris, Dorothy Kovar, Elizabeth Licka, Theodore Strmiska and Johnny Strmiska; her son, Virgil James Martinka, her daughter, Betty Jean Martinka; and a grandson, Christopher Alan Reeder. She is survived by her husband, Paul A. Martinka; her sons, Edward Martinka and his wife, Lillie of Victoria; Gene Martinka and his wife, Nancy of Killeen, Texas; and daughters, Shirley Reeder and her husband, Larry of Georgetown, Texas; and Paula Osuna of Rock Round, Texas and her son-in-law, Fred Osuna of Florence, Texas; and one sister, Mary Simcik of Granger, Texas. Mrs. Martinka was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Pam Reeves and her husband, Danny and their children, Dannelle and her daughter, McKenzie, and Cody; Connie Boedeker and her husband, Lloyd and their children Bethany and Brandon; Michael Martinka and his wife, Stacee and their children, Jackson and Brody; Sheila Martinka; Lisa Jewell and her husband, Tommy and their daughter Victoria; Cindi Mueller and her husband, Stuart and their children, Jordan and Justin; Gene-a Salvatti and her husband, Adam and their children, Sara and Caroline; Jauna Cothran and her husband, Brian and their daughter Kemble; Jarret Martinka and his wife, Becky and their children, Tyler and Jacob; Cozette Brannon and her husband, Jeff and their children, Collin and Colton; Steven McCullough and his wife, Geanne; Jennifer Wade and her husband, Doug and their children, Andrew, Adam, Ethan, Emily, and Elliott; Stephanie Lawless and her husband, Chris and their children Peyton and Harrison; Philip Reeder and his son Ayden; Patrick Reeder and his wife, Jen; Amanda Osuna and Micala Osuna and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members and many faithful friends. Family visitation will be at 6:30 with the rosary service at 7:30 on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at St. Helens Catholic Church. The funeral mass is scheduled at St. Helen Catholic Church on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Our Lady of the Rosary cemetery with the bereavement reception following at the priests' residence on the church grounds. Charitable contributions may be made in the memory of Martha Martinka to Georgetown Meals on Wheels at 803 W. 8th Street, Georgetown, Texas 78626; St. Jude's Children Hospital, St. Helen Catholic Church Building Fund or to a charitable organization of your choice. The family thanks all their friends and family for the tremendous outpouring of love and the continued support during this difficult time and special thanks to Lighthouse Hospice.
